Kingston 16GB DataTraveler G3 – no LED

I’ve got an old Kingston 2GB flash drive and I love it. It’s never failed, it’s damn solid construction, and I love the little LED light on it that flashes when it’s reading or writing.

Do you need a LED light on your flash drive? No, there’s really no reason you would. But I like it – and I missed it when it was gone.

2GB became a little cramped so I upgraded to an 8GB Staples brand flash drive. Thanks Staples. In less than 3 months, the cover broke off. And it didn’t have an LED. I was really missing that LED.

So I went shopping for another flash drive, but Best Buy (who I hate for a number of reasons – but it’s close by so I still shop there on occasion) didn’t have any Kingstons in the store. They did have a sweet deal on a HP model. And again, no LED on the HP flash drive.

I was missing that LED more than ever so I thought I’d just buy a Kingston online. But I wanted to first make sure that the newer Kingston models had the LED. A quick Google provided me with – nothing. No one mentions the LED. They don’t say included or not included – it’s just not mentioned at all. Not on Amazon, not on other sites, not even on Kingston’s website!

But one website (which shall remain nameless) gave me the info I needed. It said YES, the newer models still have the LED light. So I ordered one. Guess what – they were wrong!

Stick this in your Google results – The Kingston 16GB DataTraveler G3 does not have an LED light!

So now I have two new huge flash drives – and no LED. I really miss that LED.
